It's sale season! Venus & Mars is having a massive clearance event with discounts up to 80% off skirts, tights, tops, dresses, corsets, coats, and much more. There's no better time to get out of your comfort zone and explore new styles at unbeatable prices. For your inspiration and my entertainment, please enjoy a description of a few of my favourite sale items and how I would wear them:
The VM Black Velvet Flame Gown
This dress is gorgeous on its own--the flames up the back??? Stunning. If I were to style it, I would add something red and something shiny. A red feather boa, red lipstick, or some gold jewelry with red stones would complement the red flame design at the hemline. For something shiny, a dramatic smokey eye, a sparkly black clutch, or a pair of long black velvet gloves would add cohesion to the look. Who doesn't want to look like a glamourous, sexy movie villain?
The VM Kilt Pin Skirt (Black Pinstripe)
Everyone should have a good, versatile black skirt. The silver pin details and sparkly pinstripes give this one some edginess and sass. Styling this skirt can be as simple as pairing it with a black button down. However, if you are interested in leaning into a more alternative look, accessorizing is key. In the photograph on the right, I styled it with a patterned mesh top and a vegan leather waist belt. If I were to wear this myself, I would also wear a pair of fishnets or lace tights underneath the skirt and some silver jewelry--think layered necklaces or bold earrings. For shoes, chunky boots or platform; for makeup, black eyeliner and/or lipstick.
Black Band Jacket
This jacket is the star, the backup dancers, and the director of its own show. The gold accents can be complemented with gold earrings, a gold watch, or other gold jewelry. Here, less is more; choose smaller, subtler pieces. For a polished look, pair it with black trousers, dark jeans, or even a long black skirt. A classic white shirt or black turtleneck is a good choice for a top. Opt for black leather shoes if you want a formal vibe, or Chelsea boots for a more relaxed look.
Style is subjective. I hope my suggestions are helpful, but always keep in mind that confidence can make or break any outfit. After all, it's your outfit, not anyone else's. Wear what makes you happy! Remember, fashion is all about expressing yourself and feeling confident in your own skin. Don't be afraid to mix and match different pieces to create a look that's uniquely you!
